El racisme que n\u2019ha quedat<\/h1>\n

Tot i que a Catalunya, des de l\u2019edat mitjana, hi havia hagut persones esclavitzades provinents de terres \u00e0rabs, turques o de l\u2019Europa oriental, a partir del segle XVIII, l\u2019esclavatge es va associar a les persones africanes negres. D\u2019aquesta manera, aquestes van quedar racialitzades com un col\u00b7lectiu amb escassa capacitat intel\u00b7lectual i social, considerat en un estadi d\u2019evoluci\u00f3 inferior al dels europeus. En la cultura popular catalana, les persones negres van ser caricaturitzades com a personatges pintorescos, ximples, hipersexualitzats o antrop\u00f2fags.<\/p>\n

Amb la fi de l\u2019esclavisme, no se\u2019n va acabar tot: en va quedar el racisme, un rastre infame que ha arribat fins als nostres dies.<\/p>\n

La transmissi\u00f3 d\u2019imaginaris racistes<\/h2>\n

La imatge caricaturitzada -i fins i tot ridiculitzada- de les persones negres s\u2019ha dif\u00f3s a trav\u00e9s de productes destinats a infants i joves. Malgrat que la presentaci\u00f3 d\u2019aquest tipus d\u2019imatges pot resultar ofensiva per a moltes persones, l\u2019MMB ha optat per exposar-ne una petita mostra, amb la voluntat de fer prendre consci\u00e8ncia de com s\u2019ha constru\u00eft, consolidat i dif\u00f3s el racisme a trav\u00e9s de tot tipus de productes.<\/p>\n

Referents contra el racisme<\/h2>\n

Des de l\u2019abolici\u00f3 de l\u2019esclavisme, la comunitat afrodescendent no ha deixat mai de lluitar contra el racisme. De referents antiracistes, n\u2019hi ha molt\u00edssims; aqu\u00ed en destaquem una petita mostra.<\/p>\n

L\u2019any 1955 es va negar a cedir el seient que ocupava a l\u2019autob\u00fas a una persona blanca, per la qual cosa va ser detinguda i jutjada. El 1956 el Tribunal Suprem dels EUA va dictaminar que la segregaci\u00f3 dels autobusos era inconstitucional.<\/p>\n

Va ser un dels principals l\u00edders del moviment afroameric\u00e0 pels drets civils de la d\u00e8cada del 1960, per la qual cosa el 1964 va ser guardonat amb el Premi Nobel de la Pau. Va ser assassinat l\u2019any 1968.<\/p>\n

El mar\u00e7 de 2018, l\u2019Ajuntament de Barcelona va retirar de la via p\u00fablica l\u2019est\u00e0tua d\u2019Antonio L\u00f3pez y L\u00f3pez (1817\u20131883), primer marqu\u00e8s de Comillas. Va ser un dels empresaris i comerciants m\u00e9s importants de la Barcelona de la seva \u00e8poca. Va fundar la Compa\u00f1\u00eda Trasatl\u00e1ntica Espa\u00f1ola, el Banc Hispano Colonial i la Companyia General de Tabacs de Filipines. Part del seu capital provenia del tr\u00e0fic de persones entre l\u2019\u00c0frica i les col\u00f2nies americanes, activitat que havia exercit durant els seus anys d\u2019estada a Cuba.<\/p>\n

Quan va tornar de Cuba tota la fam\u00edlia, l\u2019any 1852, Antonio L\u00f3pez es van endur dues persones esclavitzades: Elo\u00edsa i Dorita. Sabem que Dorita va ser criada de l\u2019esposa del marqu\u00e8s, Llu\u00efsa Bru. D\u2019Elo\u00edsa sabem que havia nascut a l\u2019\u00c0frica, que fou raptada i condu\u00efda a Cuba quan tenia dotze anys. Quan van arribar a Barcelona, Elo\u00edsa va esdevenir una persona lliure, per\u00f2 va viure sempre a la casa familiar dels L\u00f3pez. Va morir l\u2019any 1900 i est\u00e0 enterrada al pante\u00f3 familiar dels L\u00f3pez, al cementiri del Poblenou. \u00c9s probable que fos l\u2019\u00faltima persona esclavitzada que va viure a Barcelona.<\/p>\n

Retirada, l\u2019any 2018, de l\u2019escultura d\u2019Antonio L\u00f3pez, banquer, navilier i empresari involucrat en el tr\u00e0fic de persones esclavitzades a Cuba, erigida a Barcelona l\u2019any 1884.<\/p>\n

Aquesta acci\u00f3, en sintonia amb la revisi\u00f3 cr\u00edtica que moltes ciutats estant portant a terme respecte a determinats monuments, ens interpel\u00b7la sobre com tractar els elements del nostre passat que avui ens incomoden o, fins i tot, ens avergonyeixen.<\/p>\n

L\u2019exposici\u00f3 La inf\u00e0mia<\/strong>. La participaci\u00f3 catalana en l\u2019esclavatge colonial<\/strong> conclou amb la pe\u00e7a audiovisual \u201cUna hist\u00f2ria de reconciliaci\u00f3\u201d<\/strong>, creada expressament per a la mostra per la cineasta Sally Fenaux Barleycorn<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Aquesta obra art\u00edstica convida a aturar-se, prestar m\u00e9s atenci\u00f3 i reflexionar sobre el llegat de l\u2019esclavatge del per\u00edode colonial, encara present en les interaccions actuals i quotidianes. Proposa examinar com aquestes narratives del passat continuen afectant les relacions humanes, socials i pol\u00edtiques, i convida a assumir la responsabilitat personal de cadasc\u00fa per treure\u2019ls poder i substituir-les per relats que benefici\u00efn totes les persones que conformem la societat.<\/p>\n
