Barcelona, 1888. S\u2019inaugura l\u2019Exposici\u00f3 Universal<\/h2>\n

El 20 de maig de 1888, la reina regent Maria Cristina va inaugurar oficialment l\u2019Exposici\u00f3 Universal de Barcelona. Al llarg del segle XIX, Catalunya es va industrialitzar, i l\u2019\u00e0rea de Barcelona es va convertir en una regi\u00f3 econ\u00f2mica de nivell europeu, aix\u00ed com en el motor industrial de l\u2019Estat. En aquell moment, la ciutat comptava amb mig mili\u00f3 d\u2019habitants, havia enderrocat les antigues muralles medievals i estrenava orgullosa el nou Eixample. Amb aquella Exposici\u00f3 Universal es va mostrar al m\u00f3n, per primera vegada, com una societat moderna, rica i emprenedora.<\/p>\n

L\u2019exposici\u00f3 va ser un \u00e8xit sense precedents per a la ciutat, i especialment per a aquella burgesia que s\u2019havia enriquit en aquells anys que Narc\u00eds Oller va batejar com \u201cla febre d\u2019or\u201d.<\/p>\n

Un cop acabada l\u2019Exposici\u00f3 Universal, al parc de la Ciutadella s\u2019hi van instal\u00b7lar diversos equipaments. El m\u00e9s emblem\u00e0tic per a la ciutat en aquell moment va ser el Parc Zool\u00f2gic, inaugurat el 1892. Fins i tot aquestes instal\u00b7lacions, vistes de prop, generen algunes preguntes: el seu origen provenia de la col\u00b7lecci\u00f3 d\u2019animals ex\u00f2tics de la Granja Mart\u00ed Codolar, una finca que Joaquim Mart\u00ed Codolar havia heretat del seu oncle Isidre Inglada Marqu\u00e8s, tamb\u00e9 vinculat al tr\u00e0fic esclavista.<\/p>\n
